Windows security updates: why AI means install them faster

Microsoft says it now uses AI to find and fix Windows security flaws faster, and that its October 2026 update fixed more than 1,100 of them. It also warns that attackers can study a released fix and build an attack, possibly within hours. So a small office should install Windows updates soon after they come out, starting with the most exposed PCs.

What did Microsoft say?

In a post on the Windows Experience Blog, Microsoft explains that AI tools now help its teams scan more code, check which Windows versions are affected and test fixes. It says a higher number of fixes does not mean Windows is less safe. It means more holes are found and closed.

The catch is timing. Before an update is out, a flaw is kept quiet. Once the fix is public, anyone can compare old and new code. Microsoft says this is why getting updates onto devices quickly matters as much as making them.

Microsoft also notes that Windows security updates are cumulative. You install one monthly update and get all the fixes, so the choice is which PCs update first, not which fixes to take.

What to do

  1. Open Settings, then Windows Update, on each office PC and check for updates now.
  2. Restart PCs after updating. Many fixes only take effect after a restart.
  3. Update first the PCs that face the internet or hold the most important data: the accounts PC, the reception PC, any PC used for remote access.
  4. Do not leave updates paused for weeks. If you pause, set a date to resume.
  5. Ask your IT vendor which PCs missed last month's update.
