Web design in Johor Bahru: what a local designer can do for you

If you run a business in Johor Bahru and need a new website, you can hire a designer anywhere. A local team adds a few things that are hard to do over chat: you can meet them, they know how JB customers search, and they can look after the hosting, email and Google listing that sit around the site. Below is what to expect and what to ask first.

Why does being near your designer help?

A website brief is easier to get right face to face. You can show printed brochures, your shop, your products and the photos you already have. A designer who has seen your premises writes better copy about it than one who only has a logo file.

It also helps after launch. When a form stops sending or a price needs to change before a sale, it helps to have a local team you can call or visit during your own office hours.

How do JB customers find a local business on Google?

Google says local results depend mainly on three things: relevance (how well your listing matches the search), distance (how far you are from the person searching) and prominence (how well known you are, including reviews and links from other sites). Google also says nobody can pay for a better local ranking.

So a JB site should be built with that in mind. Your address, opening hours and service area should match what is on your Google Business Profile. Each service should have its own page in plain words, so someone searching "aircond service Skudai" or "accountant in JB" finds the right page.

What should you ask before you hire?

Google's own advice for hiring an SEO works well for web designers too:

  1. Ask to see sites they built and still look after, and call one of those clients.
  2. Ask what results to expect and how they measure them.
  3. Ask whether they will tell you every change they make to your site.
  4. Ask who owns the domain, the hosting account and the website files when the job ends. The answer should be you.
  5. Ask who updates the site and the plugins after launch, and how fast they reply when something breaks.

A designer who asks about your customers, your area and what makes you different is usually a good sign.

What to do

  • Before you meet a designer, list your services, your service area in Johor and three websites you like.
  • Claim and check your Google Business Profile, so the details match your new site.
  • Plan for email and hosting at the same time as the design, so the launch does not break your company mail.
